The 2017 CrossFit Open is right around the corner! The first announced workout is on the 23rd and will continue for the next 5 weeks. We’ll be offering a chance to do the Open on Saturdays during class (but specifically at 11am). This year we’re reviving a fun twist on competition we debuted in 2015: The Intramural CrossFit Open.
Here’s the basic breakdown for 2017
- 2 teams of 12 people.
- Teams are captained by coaches Elliott Echols and Brett Radosti.
- Each team will be an even division of Men, Women, Scaled and RX’d competitors.
- Teams score points based on their placements in the Open workouts relative to others competing.
- Sign up with CrossFit.com is not required (but highly encouraged).
- Cost for the entire 5 weeks is $40.THIS IS NOT REQUIRED TO DO THE OPEN. YOU ARE 100% INVITED TO PARTICIPATE WITHOUT JOINING A TEAM!
Want some more details? Well I’m glad you asked. Basically we’ll be evenly splitting up participants into two teams. The teams will be an even distribution of Men, Women RX’d and Scaled athletes (so there’s really no excuse not to do it). Team are captained by Elliott or Brett. They will be helping you with strategy, tips, tricks and other helpful pointers to maximize your performance in the open.
To RX’d or not…
If you’re even remotely considering trying the open you 100000000% should! Not only is it a fun competition but a great way of giving your training purpose. I’ve seen countless people wanting to learn a skill or reach a goal and suddenly when they Open comes around, and the pressure gets ramped up a bit, they do things they previously thought impossible. If you’re planning on doing our fun comp the only thing to consider is should you compete in the RXd or Scaled division. Everyone will be able to complete the Scaled workouts but RXd can be tricky. You should check out all the workouts here and make your decision because you will not be allowed to switch divisions once you sign up.
Each team member will get a team t-shirt to rep your squad. Team names will be announced later. In 2015 we gave the winning team a “champions t-shirt.” This year we’ll be upping the stakes a little bit. The winning team will get these DCF 2017 Champion weightbelts. Not only are they awesome but they’re functional too!”
